Description
If you are interested in the coaching programme in a competitive swimming environment, this certificate is suitable for you.

Achievement of all the units in this certificate will qualify you to operate as a senior coach. The full programme will provide you with the generic core coaching skills and knowledge common to all disciplines together with a specific focus on competitive swimming coaching technical knowledge and practical skills that will allow you to plan, deliver and evaluate a macro cycle of work. You will be able to manage and lead appropriate resources (physical and human) to support all areas of the club programme.

The Level 3 qualification is not delivered as a course but will consist of 11 units. Units 1 - 10 are delivered by separate stand-alone workshops and unit 11 is a Vocational Assessment. This is Unit 8 – Technique and Skill Adaptations.

This unit is sports specific and explores how the Level 3 Senior Swimming Coach can maximise swimmer efficiency by adapting technique.
Assessment

Assessment of Units 1 - 10 is by independent assessors appointed by the Programme Co-ordinator and will be assessed through task booklets.

Assessment of Unit 11 lies with assessors appointed by the Programme Co-ordinator in conjunction with evidence provided by an Expert Witness (Vocational Assessor) and will cover practical coaching through an evidence based portfolio, oral questioning and observation.

Further study

Combined with the rest of the units in this qualification may enable you to secure paid or voluntary work as a coach in a competitive swimming club. The qualification is the third stage in a four level coaching structure. Units 1 - 6 are transferable across all ASA coaching disciplines and therefore candidates wishing to take a Level 3 qualification in another discipline are only required to complete Units 7 - 11 within that discipline provided they already hold Units 4, 5 & 6 of the relevant Level 2 Certificate or have gained exemption. The next stage for you will be to progress to the ASA Level 4 Certificate for Coaching Swimming.
