Prerequisites

You must be at least 17 years of age at the start of the course.

You must have all of the following:

  • ASA Level 1 Award in Coaching Swimming (QCF)

201: Understanding the FUNdamentals of coaching/teaching sport

202: Understanding how to develop participants through coaching/teaching sport

203: Supporting participants lifestyle through coaching/teaching sport

204: Understanding the principles of evaluating coaching/teaching activities in sport

205: Plan a series of swimming coaching sessions

206: Prepare the swimming coaching environment

207: Deliver a series of swimming coaching sessions

208: Monitor and evaluate swimming coaching sessions

Details

The dates of the course are: 5th, 6th, 7th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 19th, 20th & 21st October 2012

The times of the course are: Fridays 5pm - 9.30pm, Saturdays 9am - 5pm & Sundays 12noon - 8pm

All six practical sessions covered in units 205-208 will be covered on this course.

Description
This course leads to a vocational qualification designed for you to learn how to effectively apply your skills, knowledge and understanding of coaching swimming.
 
This qualification aims to provide and equip you, with the skills, knowledge, tools and techniques to effectively plan, prepare, deliver, monitor and evaluate swimming coaching sessions.
 
 
This qualification is endorsed by UKCC and sits on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF)
Assessment
On successful completion of this qualification you should be able to:
  • Establish an effective, fair and equitable coaching swimming environment
  • Establish a safe coaching swimming environment
  • Review participants needs and establish goals for coaching sessions
  • Produce plans for sessions that support participants development
  • Plan for evaluation of sessions
  • Prepare participants for coaching swimming sessions
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with participants and others
  • Deliver coaching swimming sessions
  • Develop participants performance
  • Conclude coaching swimming sessions
  • Evaluate participants performance and effectiveness of sessions
  • Monitor personal coaching practices
 
The qualification is assessed through a variety of methods and activities in the form of observation, written evidence and/or verbal discussion.  Your tutor will help you to understand the different sorts of evidence that are acceptable and appropriate, and what the methods of assessment to be used will be. Practical assessments will be conducted through observation in your natural working environment.
