Prerequisites

You must be at least 16 years of age at the start of the course.

In order to attend this course, you must hold:

- An ASA Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching)

OR

- An ASA Level 1 Award in Teaching Aquatics or an equivalent ASA qualification certificated after 1994. 

If you do not hold one of the above pre-requisites you will not be able to attend this course

Additional Important Information:

Learners will be required to provide formal identification and present this to the Course Tutor on the first day of the course. This should be photographic ID where possible, the following list details accepted forms of ID:

  • Passport
  • Driving license
  • ID card or other form of national ID
  • National Insurance Card
  • Photographic security pass for current place of employment
  • Armed Forces service ID
  • Re-enrolment of known student (record as ‘returning student’)
  • Exam certificate
  • Birth certificate (and corresponding marriage certificate if applicable)

We will also require learners to complete some documents and hand these to the tutor on or before the first day of the course, such as Emergency Contact Forms and Duty of Care forms (where applicable). These will be included in your final confirmation letter which we send to you approximately 2 weeks prior to the course start date.

Description
The ASA Level 2 Swimming Teacher qualification is a practical qualification, which develops the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to be a Swimming Teacher.
 
This qualification builds on the knowledge, skills and abilities developed in the ASA Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) qualification. When achieved it ensures swimming teachers can effectively and independently plan, prepare, deliver, monitor and evaluate a series of swimming teaching lessons.
 
This qualification is made up of a series of learning outcomes and assessment criteria. Assessment is through the completion of a series of tasks set by the ASA AB. The accuracy of assessment is verified using ASA AB quality assurance procedures.The ASA Level 2 Swimming Teacher qualification is a practical qualification, which develops the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to be a Swimming Teacher.

Assessment
Assessment is made up of a series of component parts:

1. Theoretical questions

2. Lesson plans

3. Lesson overview

4. Observation record

5. Evaluation

6. Action plan

Assessment is the responsibility of the Tutor/Assessor and will cover the following:

  • Practical teaching through the use of observation, oral and/or written and recorded against a checklist of competence related to specific outcomes
  • Planning, preparation and other associated tasks
  • A selection of group work, presentations, group tasks, worksheets, games and pool work and other activities deemed appropriate by the assessor
