Aquafit is, in short, aerobic exercise in water - a fitness class in the pool. It promotes fitness for life and aims to maintain stamina, strength, and suppleness. It is also good at reducing stress levels.The Aquafit instructor delivers safe, effective, quality, balanced and enjoyable Aquafit programmes and evaluates the effectiveness of aqua exercise to music group sessions.
To access this role you must be 18 years of age.
The Level 2 Fitness Instructing (Aqua) qualification is delivered in 2 parts. The first 4 core units are completed as a distance learning package through a series of e-learning, exams and portfolio work.
Level 2 Fitness Instructing Core Units include:
Unit 1: Anatomy & physiology for exercise
Unit 2: Know how to support clients who take part in exercise and physical activity
Unit 3: Health, safety and welfare in a fitness environment
Unit 4: Principles of exercise, fitness and health
These modules form the foundation units to the Level 2 Fitness Instructing (Aqua) course. They will take approximately 25 hours to complete and upon completion of your home study you will be required to submit your portfolio work to the IoS and take two multiple choice exams.
Once the core units are complete, individuals can book onto a convenient units 5&6 aqua course, which is the aqua specific part of the course. This is a 2-3 day course involving a practical video assessment. Individuals are responsible for sourcing thier own class and videoing their own session.
Successful completion of this qualification allows entry onto the register of exercise professionals (REPs) as a Level 2 Aqua Instructor. This is recommended by most employers, for some it is mandatory. You can also take part in a series of our REPs registered CPD seminars including Aqua Jogging and Aqua Circuits.
Please note: those who already hold a Level 2 qualification in gym instructing or exercise to music need only attend the aqua specific units 5 & 6. These qualifications must be an NQF (National Qualification Framework) or QCF (Qualifications & Credit Framework) qualification from one of the following recognised awarding bodies: CYQ, Active IQ, Premier, City & Guilds, OCR, Edexel.
