You must be at least 16 years of age at the start of the course.

If you are looking to register and pay for the technical units 105 - 107 only, learners must hold an ASA Level 1 Award in the principles of Teaching/Coaching (QCF) (or equivalent or have completed a QCF (or equivalent) Level 1 Award in another aquatic discipline.  If you have a Level 1 QCF qualification from another sport you will need to apply for Credit Accumulation and Transfer (CAT) by emailing before booking. Your original prerequisite certificate must be brought along with you to the course on the first day and be presented to the tutor.

Additional Important Information:

Learners will be required to provide formal identification and present this to the Course Tutor on the first day of the course. This should be photographc ID where possible, the following list details accepted forms of ID:

  • Passport
  • Driving license
  • ID card or other form of national ID
  • National Insurance Card
  • Photographic security pass for current place of employment
  • Armed Forces service ID
  • Re-enrolment of known student (record as ‘returning student’)
  • Exam certificate
  • Birth certificate (and corresponding marriage certificate if applicable)

We will also require learners to complete some documents and hand these to the tutor on or before the first day of the course, such as Emergency Contact Forms and Duty of Care forms (where applicable). These will be included in your final confirmation letter which we send to you approximately 2 weeks prior to the course start date.

Saturday 14th November 3:30pm – 6pm Practical

Saturday 21st November 3:30pm – 6pm Practical

Saturday 28th November 3:30pm – 6pm Practical

Technical unit learners would need to attend 4pm - 6pm on 8th November at the theory location and Saturday 21st and 28th November – to attend both practical sessions.

This course leads to a vocational qualification designed to provide you with an introduction to the knowledge, skills and understanding of the safe and ethical principles for effective coaching practices in water polo.
 As an aspiring coach this qualification will equip you with the knowledge and tools to actively support a more senior qualified, experienced, licensed coach of water polo, at any level, in the delivery of a pre-prepared session.
This qualification is endorsed by UKCC and sits on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF)
On successful completion of this qualification you should be able to:
  • Promote and establish working relationships and high standards of behaviour with players, other coaches, parents and officials in the overall development of water polo
  • Demonstrate an ability to safely prepare, support and conclude water polo coaching sessions/activities using pre-planned session plans
  • Demonstrate an understanding of:
    • Generic coaching skills
    • Sport specific coaching skills
    • Coach and performer/player development
    • Good practice in coaching ethics
    • Health and safety
    • Basic introduction to water polo
  • Demonstrate an ability to identify and adapt water polo coaching sessions/activities for a variety of different age groups and abilities
  • Identify an awareness of further personal development opportunities in this discipline, including coaching, administration and officiating.
The qualification is assessed through a variety of methods and activities in the form of observation, written evidence and/or verbal discussion.  Your tutor will help you to understand the different sorts of evidence that are acceptable and appropriate, and what the methods of assessment to be used will be. 
Practical assessments will be conducted through observation in your natural working environment.

You should look to develop your learning and knowledge of this discipline by working with other more senior qualified, experienced, licensed coaches.
