This is a Blended Learning programme which means that learners complete part of the theory units online, this work is assessed and then learners complete all e-learning elements prior to attending the face-to-face practical units at K2 Crawley

Bookings for this course close on the 26th of January.  You will be able to begin your online learning from the 26th of January. - we will send you an email with details of how to begin this on or before the 26th of January. You will have until 48 hours before the first face to face date successfully complete your online learning.

Description

This course is designed for anyone who is interested in starting a career in teaching swimming or wants to assist a Swimming Teacher. Successful completion of the course will qualify you to become an ASA Level 1 Swimming Assistant which enables you to actively support a qualified Swimming Teacher in the delivery of a pre-prepared session.

This is a blended learning programme consisting of:

  • Online Learning 
  • 6 - 8 hours of online learning covering the theoretical elements of the course. You will be expected to complete the online learning and undertake an online assessment before attending the course.
  • Face-to-Face Course
  • 2 practical days with an experienced tutor during which you will put the theory that you have learnt into practice.
  • Course Resources
  • You will receive a free textbook which normally retails at £13.99 to accompany your course which you should read alongside completion of the online learning.

This qualification is made up of a series of learning outcomes and assessment criteria. Assessment is through the completion of a series of tasks set by the ASA AB. The accuracy of the assessment is verified using ASA AB quality assurance procedures.The ASA Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) qualification is a practical qualification, which develops the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to be a Swimming Assistant (Teaching).
The delivery of the qualification is flexible with approved centres able to choose the timing and methods of delivery. The assessment of the qualification is prescribed and all approved centres will use the same materials to ensure consistency. All aspects of the qualification are compulsory. The qualification must be delivered and assessed in English.
This qualification is made up of a series of learning outcomes and assessment criteria. Assessment is through the completion of a series of tasks set by the ASA AB. The accuracy of the assessment is verified using ASA AB quality assurance procedures.
Assessment

The purpose of assessment is to ensure that effective learning has taken place. In order to achieve this qualification you will be expected to complete a series of assessment tasks approved by the ASA Awarding Body including:

  • Online theory test where you will be required to achieve 100% in the online test before you can proceed to the face-to-face course
  • Observation of practical tasks on course
  • Completion of a review record 
To achieve this qualification:
  • All learning outcomes must be achieved
  • All assessment criteria must be achieved
  • All evidence produced by the learner must be their own, and in English
This qualification is not graded. Learners will either meet the requirements and pass or will not meet the requirements and be referred.

On completion of this qualification, learners will have achieved the minimum recognised standards of competency to be a Swimming Assistant (Teaching) and can progress their career in a number of settings including private swim schools, local authority leisure centres, local aquatic clubs and youth and community groups.
 
Learners may wish to progress to the ASA Level 2 Swimming Teacher. Learners may also be able to take further qualifications within swimming, and/or progress onto leadership and management qualifications either within sport and leisure or outside of this.
