Prerequisites

You must be at least 18 years of age at the start of the course.

  • You must be at least 18 years of age at the start of the course.
  • Learners must hold an ASA Level 1 Award (QCF) in Coaching Swimming, Swim England Swimming Assistant (Coaching) or equivalent. 

Additional Important Information:

  • You must have a good level of English written and verbal communication skills
  • You will need to have coached in the last 3 months on a regular basis
  • You must be linked to a swimming club with access to 3 sessions per week for off course assessment 
  • You should have access to coach swimmers that sit within 2 different stages of the ADSP (Athlete Development Support Pathway), i.e. training to train and above over the course of a 6 week mesocycle
  • You should work with a coaching assistant
  • You must have knowledge and experience of current coaching best practises

Course dates: 19th February - 24th February 2017

Course Times: 9am-5.30pm

As part of units 205-208, in addition to the 2 course assessed sessions, candidates must then deliver 4 linked and progressive sessions with the same group of 6 or more participants at a workplace.  The 4 sessions are signed off to say they have been carried out by a guarantor. A Guarantor can be a head coach, head teacher, site manager or someone of authority within the work placement. The guarantor signature must be on headed paper.  If you need support sourcing a work placement, please contact your Aquatics Officer for help regarding this.  Please note there are some Level 2 Qualifications which include all 6 sessions as part of the delivered programme.  If you are unsure of which programme will suit you best please contact the IoS on 01509 640640. 

Description

You gain the Swim England Swimming Coach certificate through a practical course that develops your knowledge, skills and abilities. You take this course ahead of becoming an independent swimming coach.

The course is designed for anyone wishing to become an independent coach.

This course builds on the Swimming Assistant (Coaching) certificate and is delivered through a mixture of classroom activities, discussions and practical poolside learning.

All coaching certificates are awarded electronically, via an e-certificate and through a third party organisation who are registered under the Data Protection Act 1998 and are accredited to both ISO 9001 (Quality Standard) and ISO 27001 (Information Security). If you require a hard copy of your certificate you can apply for this following receipt of your e-certificate.

Assessment

The purpose of assessment is to ensure that effective learning has taken place. In order to achieve this certificate you will be expected to complete a series of assessment tasks approved by Swim England including:

  • Theoretical questions
  • Session plans
  • Session overview
  • Observation record
  • Evaluation
  • Action plan
