You must be at least 17 years of age at the start of the course.

Learners are required to be 17 years of age to register for this qualification and must hold one of the following qualifications:

ASA Teacher Certificate 

ASA Level 2 (Teacher) Swimming, units 1-3 (2000-2006/7)

ASA UKCC Level 2 Certificate for Teaching Aquatics, units 1-6

ASA Level 2 Certificate inTeaching Aquatics  (QCF), units 201-208

Your original prerequisite certificate must be brought along with you to the course on the first face to face day and be presented to the tutor.

**Although not compulsory, it is advised that you should have completed several hours, over a prolonged period, of assisting or shadowing experienced level 2 Adult and Child Teachers. This will help your communication skills when supporting adults to facilitate their children’s learning. It is also recommended that you have up to date knowledge and experience of writing session plans**

Additional Important Information:

Learners will be required to provide formal identification and present this to the Course Tutor on the first day of the course. This should be photographc ID where possible, such as a passport or driving licence. 

We will also require learners to complete some documents and hand these to the tutor on or before the first day of the course, such as Emergency Contact Forms and Duty of Care forms (where applicable). These will be included in your final confirmation letter which we send to you approximately 2 weeks prior to the course start date.


Learners are also required to complete the online learning elements between attending the face to face days.

Unit 1 - Principles of child development in the foundation stages of aquatics

Unit 2 - Understanding how to plan for Adult and Child aquatic sessions

Unit 3 - Supporting innovative delivery in Adult and Child aquatic sessions


Face to Face dates

29th September 2017  9.00am to 5.00pm (subject to change). Please note a laptop or tablet will be required on this day.

2nd November 2017 9.00am to 1.00pm (subject to change) 

3rd November 2017  9.00am to 1.30pm (subject to change)

E-Learning - Will be available from 29th September 2017 and must be all completed prior to attending the final face to face day.

Face to Face - Attendance on these dates is mandatory in order to complete this qualification


This qualification takes a blended learning approach combining e-learning and two days’ face to face delivery with post course online portfolio work. The total guided learning hours are 45. We estimate that the online learning and completion of assessments should take you are approximately 21- 30 hours to complete.

The L2CAP is intended for those teachers who  will be delivering sessions to adult and child groups (between 0 and 4 years). 

The units of this qualification will enable learners to:

  • Develop confidence, communication and inter personal skills
  • Identify the principles of prefundamentals sessions
  • Develop an awareness of their professional role and responsibilities
  • Adopt an integrated approach to the theory and practice of adult and child sessions
  • Reflect on their own previous or current levels of experience, practice and skills, and areas for development

Learners can be assessed using a combination of methods such as observation, examination of products, oral and written questioning, professional discussion and assignments/case study.

Achievement of this qualification will provide sufficient evidence that an individual has acquired the necessary skills and knowledge to enable them to deliver Learn to Swim sessions in the context of adult and child sessions.
