You must be at least 16 years of age at the start of the course.

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification although we strongly recommend that you have a minimum of 6 months poolside experience working alongside a Coach (or have a Swimming Teacher qualification).

Swim England Swimming Assistant (Coaching) **BLENDED LEARNING**


This is a Blended Learning programme which means that learners complete part of the theory units online, this work is assessed and then learners complete all e-learning elements prior to attending the face-to-face practical units at Water Meadows Swimming & Fitness Park 

Bookings for this course close on 31/03/2017.  You will be able to begin your online learning from  01/04/2017. - we will send you an email with details of how to begin this on or before  01/04/2017. You will have until 48 hours before the first face to face date successfully complete your online learning.

The Swim England Swimming Assistant (Coaching) course is designed to provide you with an introduction to the knowledge, skills and understanding of the safe and ethical principles for effective coaching practices in swimming

This course is for anyone who wants to take the first step to becoming a swimming coach or interested in supporting a coach in a club environment.

As an aspiring coach, this course will equip you with the knowledge and tools to actively support a more experienced Swim England Swimming Coach in the delivery of a pre-prepared training session.

This is a blended learning programme consisting of:

Online Learning

12 - 15 hours of online learning covering the theoretical elements of the course. You will be expected to complete the online learning and undertake an online assessment before attending the course.

Face-to-Face Course

2 ½ practical days with an experienced tutor during which you will put the theory that you have learnt into practice.

You will need access to a computer/tablet and Internet access to complete your online learning. Click here for more information about system requirements.


This certificate is endorsed by Swim England. All Coaching Certificates are awarded electronically, via an ecertificate and through a third party organisation; who are registered under the Data Protection Act 1998 and are accredited to both ISO 9001 (Quality Standard) and ISO 27001 (Information Security). If you require a hard copy of your certificate you can apply for this following receipt of your e-certificate.

The purpose of assessment is to ensure that effective learning has taken place. In order to achieve this qualification you will be expected to complete a series of assessment tasks approved by Swim England including:

  • Online theory test where you will be required to achieve 100% in the online test before you can proceed to the face-to-face course
  • Observation of practical tasks on course
  • Completion of a review record
