The ASA Level 2 Swimming Teacher qualification is a practical qualification, which develops the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to be a Swimming Teacher.

This qualification builds on the knowledge, skills and abilities developed in the ASA Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) qualification. When achieved it ensures swimming teachers can effectively and independently plan, prepare, deliver, monitor and evaluate a series of swimming teaching lessons.

Learners will usually be given access to the online learning 7 weeks before the course begins. The online learning will be delivered via an i-learn learning programme. All learners will need to fully engage with this learning before moving on to assessment.

Assessment must be fully completed. All learners will be required to pass every question before being allowed to continue onto the face to face element of the course.

We anticipate that it will take between 25-30 hours to complete the online learning and assessment. It is essential that time is planned in for this learning and assessment well in advance of the face to face days. Completion of all of this will demonstrate learner ability to be able to move to a shortened process for the level 2 course.

Browser recommendations

Please be aware that if you are using Windows we currently do not support the browsers Microsoft Edge or Internet Explorer with all our online learning modules. We strongly recommend that you use the latest version of Google Chrome. If you do not have this browser it can be downloaded from here.

For further help, you will find comprehensive instructions for accessing this in the 'Help' menu on this website or please click here.

  1. Theoretical questions – These will need to be completed at least 72 hours in advance of the first face to face day and must be assessed as 100% correct
  2. The theory questions completed on the online workspace are split into sections each containing a number of questions.
  3. Assessment questions can be accessed in any order (within a section) through a question dashboard.
  4. Learners are given 2 attempts to answer each question. If after 2 attempts learners are still unsuccessful   an alternative question will be presented to them. However we would strongly advise that learners revisit the I-learn content before attempting the alternative question. Failure to answer this question could mean a recommendation of attending a full face to face course.
  5. Learners needs to answer all questions in a section correctly before they can progress onto the next section
  6. Learners can retake an entire section if necessary
  7. Lesson plans – 2 lesson plans will need to be completed and submitted to your tutor 1 week prior to the first face to face day.

Learners will also be required to complete 2 session plans, after completion of the i-learn section on planning. The tutor will prescribe the stage and content for the lessons learners must submit. These plans must be submitted 1 week before the start date of the course to allow the tutor to assess the content is suitable. Learners will be expected to deliver practical teaching on day 1 of the course using these prepared plans. Learners are issued with a text book and an A5 resource booklet to support learning and planning

On- course assessment

The following will need to be fully competent by the final day of the course to achieve the standard required to become a swimming teacher.

  1. 6  lesson plans
  2. 2 Lesson Overviews
  3. 1 Observation Record
