There is a pre course preparation sheet which is sent to all registered learners 7 days prior to the course start date via email by the Institute of Swimming. The pre course preparation sheet is downloadable from the course confirmation web folio. This should be completed prior to the course and taken on the first day of the course for initial discussions with the course tutor.

Description

A one day course for spa pool water issues designed for front line staff who are responsible for safe operation of commercial spa pools. 

Key areas include hygiene, design and performance characteristics, water quality and spa water testing.

The course introduces the basic principles and processes of pool water treatment, and the practical skills required to test the pool water.

By the end of the course all successful candidates will be able to understand the factors that contribute to spa water quality, explain to bathers what can affect spa water quality, and the importance of good hygiene and cleanliness in and around the spa pool. This course provides the first step towards the full Pool Plant Operators Certificate course.

Course Aim:

The aim of the course is to provide staff with the skills and knowledge to have an appreciation of the spa pool water treatment processes, to be able to test the spa pool water, understand the factors that contribute to spa water quality, awareness of factors that affect spa water quality, and understand the importance of good hygiene and cleanliness in and around the spa pool.

    Cleaning the spa pool

It is strongly recommended personal email addresses are used when registering as an individual with the Institute of Swimming to assist with course communication and awarding by IQL UK (Awarding body of RLSS UK)

Assessment

The course is assessed by completion of a work based assignment.

This assignment has to be completed within 3 weeks from the course date and received by the Institute of Swimming within the 3 week time frame. To complete the assignment, learners need access to an operational plant room.

Awarding times will be between 5-7 weeks following the course.

Candidates who pass the work based assignment will gain the Institute of Swimming & IQL UK Pool Plant Spa Certificate. 

Please note that if your employer funds your place on this course, the Institute of Swimming may share awarding information with them, upon request.

The registration period for this qualification is 12 months from the start date of the course, if any learner does not complete the course and assessment within this time they will need to re-register and re-attend another course, please note that this will incur further charges.

This qualification is not graded. Learners will either meet the requirements and pass or will not meet the requirements and be referred.
