How long will my certificate be valid?

3 (Three) years from the date of course being successfully completed. 

When will I find out if I am booked on to a course?

After completing your course application online through ‘My IoS’ tab, you will be contacted by email with the booking confirmation and your place is secure.

You will be able to check what courses you have enrolled on within individual account by clicking on your ‘My IoS’ tab and your enrolled courses will be displayed under 'upcoming courses'.

Will the Pool Plant Operator certificate cover me to look after Spa pools?

Yes

Where do I send my assignment too?

Your assignment needs to be sent to the Institute of Swimiming. The preferred method is via email to the mailbox  - poolplant@swimming.org or alternatively plese send your assignment to the Pool Plant Team, Institute of Swimming, SportPark Pavilion 3, 3 Oakwood Drive, Loughborough, Leicestershire, LE11 3QF.

We recommend using recorded delivery if you wish to send your assignment by post.

How will I know if my assignment has been received by the Institute of Swimming?

You will be sent an email to confirm your assignment has been successfully received. 

What if my assignment is late?

There is a strict deadline of three weeks from the last day of the course. If an assignment is late, then you will be required to pay a late fee of £35.00 prior to marking.

How do I buy vouchers to send my employees on to a Pool Plant course?

Through the www.theiosonline.com website. You will need to register as an organisation and then purchase a course voucher to allow your employee to book on. The employee will then need to register as an individual, book onto the course using the voucher. This is to ensure we can award them through the awarding organisation.

This will also mean you can be invoiced for the space. You will need a purchase order number/reference number to do this.

When will I find out my post course assignment mark/grade?

The Pool Plant programme courses are either a PASS or FAIL course. The employer steering group are moving away from grading vocational qualifications, so we are following this guidance.

When will I receive my certificate from the course?

You will receive an electronic certificate from IQL UK, awarding organisation of the RLSS UK within 4 weeks of the course end date. No certification will be processed until payment is successfully received for your course space/s by the Institute of Swimming.

Will I be added automatically to CIMSPA's RoPPPs register on completion of the course as before?

The RoPPPs register is maintained by CIMSPA. CIMSPA have currently frozen the RoPPPs register and no additional learners will be added after February 2018. Learners who have successfully completed the Pool Plant Operators course only will be added to PWTAG (Pool Water Treatment Advisory Group) SPTO register free of charge for 3 years.

All the courses with dates I can attend are fully booked?

Register your interest for the specific course on the IoS online and if a space becomes available, you will be contacted via email. This service is offered on a first come first served basis.

My Pool Plant Operator Certificate has expired. Can I still attend a revalidation course?

No. Once your certificate has expired a full 3 day Pool Plant Operator course needs to be completed once again. The awarding body, IQL UK will offer reasonable adjustments and extensions but these are granted on a case by case basis. Do the Institute of Swimming still offer the closed courses for facilities to run the Pool Plant Operators certificate?

Yes. The course will need to ensure financial viability to proceed and quotations will be provided including all necessary charges. Please contact the National Pool Plant Short Course Coordinator for further details by email using poolplant@swimming.org or alternatively by telephone using 01509 640278.

We would like to host future Pool Plant Operator and Pool Plant Operator Revalidation courses?

We are always looking for new venues. Please contact the Institute of Swimming for further details by emailing poolplant@swimming.org to offer your venue.

What do I do if my course is cancelled?

The Institute of Swimming will look at offering you an alternative course venue but if this is not suitable, the Institute of Swimming will either provide you with a full refund to whomever paid for the space or credit any paid invoices.

I have been told there will be a revalidation i-Learn available online to enable me to recertify my pool plant operators’ certificate?

The Pool Plant Operator Revalidation i-Learn is now available on our website under 'online learning'

There are no courses near me?

We try to provide courses which can be accessible by most regions and in locations which have good transport links. If you would like a course nearer to you, please email us at poolplant@swimming.org and we can use our waiting lists to see if we can accommodate another course.

I have previously attended an alternative pool plant training course; such as Active IQ course or a PALM Swimming Pool Technical Operators certificate. Can I attend a Revalidation course or does it have to be another 3-day Pool Plant Course?

The National Pool Plant Operators Revalidation course will only be refreshing and updating the knowledge you gained from your initial course. As long as you meet the Revalidation course prerequisites, you are more than welcome to update your knowledge using our revalidation course either by attending a face-to-face course or via our online revalidation course.

I was unwell and did not attend my Pool Plant Operator course/Pool Plant Revalidation course. Can I transfer to another course?

Yes. You will need to send a copy of your doctor’s note to poolplant@swimming.org

Please include details of the course you were absent from and the new course you wish to attend.

If a doctor’s note is not provided, a course replacement will only be provided in exceptional circumstances or with a £40 transfer fee.

What do I do if my work based assignment is marked as a refer (referral)?

If you have been contacted by the Institute of Swimming and informed your work based assignment scored less than 70% (refer) you have TWO weeks to resubmit your assignment.

Using the assessor’s notes, amend and resubmit your assignment to the Institute of Swimming using the mailbox poolplant@swimming.org

A fee of £35 is payable before your assignment will be sent for remarking. Click here to pay the refer fee

Please note the course registration period is 12 months. If the course has not been successfully completed within this time frame, a new course will need to be completed and assessmnet processes undertaken once again to gain certiifcation. 

I have not received my Pool Plant Operator e-certificate to my email account?

We ask for all learners to register with the Institute of Swimming using a personal email address. This is due to some organisation’s mail filters and security firewalls which has resulted in IQL emails being redirected to spam/junk files. If you have registered with us using a work email address, please log into your IoS account to amend the email address. Please email poolplant@rlss.org.uk with your course details if you require a copy of your certificate.

Will I receive the course resources on the course or prior to the course?

You will have the ability to view the course resource digitally through your individual IoS account once the booking is complete. This digital resource will be available prior to the course and throughout the course. To view the resource; My IoS & log into account >My Courses tab > Courses > Upcoming courses > Click course title > Scroll to Resources section & click to download/view course resource. A hard copy resource will be provided to you on your course.

What file format should I use for my assignment be sent to the Institute of Swimming?

Your assignment should be either a Word document or a pdf file. If you use other programs to send your assignment such as Open office we will be unable to read these files. You can find a PDF printer online.

The Institute of Swimming mailbox can receive assignments up to 12MB as an email attachment. You may have to send your assignment to us in multiple emails if this is larger than 12MB.
